About Cookies:
- DEFINITION: A "cookie" is a small text file that a Web site can place on your computer's hard drive. It can for example: remember you for future visits, or make it possible for you to use an online "shopping cart", or collect information about your activities on the site. The cookie transmits this information back to the Web site's computer which, generally speaking, is the only computer that can read it. Many consumers do not know that "cookies" are being placed on their computers when they visit Web sites. If you want to know when this happens, or to prevent it from happening, you can set your browser to warn you when a Web site attempts to place a "cookie" on your computer.
- There are 3 basic kinds of cookies:
- Session Cookies ( Anonymous random ID number, used to automate functions only during the current visit to the web site - safe to allow )
- Persistent First Party Cookies ( Only written by the Actual site you are currently visiting - generally safe to allow )
- Persistent Third Party Cookies ( Can be written by other sites: popup advertisers, etc. - the folks we all dislike )
- We do not have any Third Party Advertisers or their Popups on our Site.
- We only use First Party persistent cookies on our site IF you request that we do it.
(i.e. "Please remember me" to make volunteering easier. This cookie itself contains NO personal data.)
- Session cookies are temporary files that are erased when you close all browsers. We only use a Session Cookie to anonymously collect information for site management and use this industry standard information:
- The browser software you use and your operating system
- The date and time you access our site
- The name of the domain and host from which you access the Internet
- The Internet protocol (IP) address of the computer you are using
- The Internet address of the site from which you linked directly to our site
- We use this information only as anonymous aggregate data to determine the number of visitors to different sections of our site, to ensure the site is working properly, and to help us make the site more useful.
